ITHA President Chris Block to Speak to IRB on Wednesday

The ITHA is sharing the below message to keep our members informed about events at Hawthorne Race Course that might affect the thoroughbred meet scheduled to begin on Sunday, March 29.

Hawthorne cancelled harness racing for the fourth weekend in a row, as the track continues to reckon with severe financial challenges.

The Illinois Racing Board will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, and is expected to hear from Tim Carey, Hawthorne's president and general manager.

ITHA President Chris Block will speak to the IRB on behalf of all thoroughbred owners and trainers eager to know whether Hawthorne has the wherewithal to host — and complete — the thoroughbred meet planned for this year. ITHA members are encouraged to watch the IRB meeting at this link
