About CTHF

Assisting the Children and Families
of Racetrack Backstretch Workers

The Chicago Thoroughbred Horsemen's Foundation, Inc., is the benevolent arm of the ITHA. Since 2000, the CTHF has funded more than 150 scholarships for college-bound children of backstretch workers – the skilled laborers responsible for grooming, maintaining and caring for the horses.

We support athletic activities for these children, who, together with their families, reside on the backstretch. We also provide financial assistance for healthcare and other expenses to eligible backstretch workers.

We are committed to promoting the safety and well being of those workers without whose dedication horse racing would not be possible:

  • Medical & Food Assistance for Licensed Grooms, Hotwalkers and Exercise Persons who work on our backstretches and meet certain criteria.

  • College Scholarship Program for Eligible Students.

  • Coordinated Summer Sports Programs at Arlington International.

  • Eyeglass Reimbursement.

  • Funeral Expense Reimbursement.

  • Holiday Dinner/Kids Party.
